Adobe PhotoDeluxe 4

Screenshot of the Advanced Menus option
  1. To scan a new photo in:
GET & FIX PHOTO > GET PHOTO > SCANNERS. PhotoDeluxe walks you through the rest with directions across the top.
  2. Crop (and straighten) the photo:
    1. Click on ADVANCED MENUS (near the bottom left) to get a longer menu at the top. Choose ORIENTATION > FREE ROTATE and grab any of the corner handles to straighten the photo (handles shown below). Click once inside the photo to complete the straightening process. This process will leave some white edges around the photo which you'll crop out in the next step.
    2. Choose GET & FIX PHOTO from the top left, and then click ROTATE & SIZE > TRIM & SIZE. Click the 1 TRIM tab, make sure the TRIM SIZE drop-down menu is set to ANY SIZE, and click the TRIM button. Draw a rectangle (from upper left to lower right) around the area of the photo you'd like to keep (you can drag the corner handles to fine-tune the rectangle). Click OK to crop and then click the 2 DONE tab to get back to the default menus.

  3. Make color and contrast adjustments:

  4. Resize the photo:
If the advanced menu isn't already showing, click on ADVANCED MENUS (near the bottom left) to get a longer menu at the top. Now choose SIZE > PHOTO SIZE.
  5. screenshot of resize window
    1. Circled, center portion of window: Click the drop-down arrow to choose pixels as the unit of measurement. As a general rule, for Web viewing, try to keep the width no more than 580 pixels, and the height no more than 420 pixels.
    2. Circled, lower portion of window: Resolution should be 72 pixels/inch for Web viewing.
    3. As long as the box in front of CONSTRAIN PROPORTIONS is checked, your photo's size will change proportionately.
  6. Sharpen the resized photo:
GET & FIX PHOTO > ADJUST QUALITY > EXTENSIS INSTANT FIX TOOLS > AUTO SHARPEN.
  7. Save the photo in .jpg format:
FILE > EXPORT > FILE FORMAT.
  8. screenshot of export window

    2. Choose JPEG from the drop-down menu in the SAVE AS field (see circled area in the lower portion of window above).
    3. Take the check mark off in front of ADD TO ALBUM (circled, near bottom of window above).
    4. Click the OPTIONS button on the new window that comes up (circled, below). Choose 5 as the quality of the JPEG file. (A lower number means a lower image quality and lower file size; a higher number means better image quality and higher file size.) Choose the third FORMAT OPTION, PROGRESSIVE, with 3 scans. Click OK.
