On-Site, One-to-One Training
Why Classroom Education Doesn't Always Work Well
The most common barrier to learning in a classroom environment is the feeling that you don't understand something. You're sure that everyone else understands it (after all, they don't look puzzled and aren't raising their hands), and you don't want to bother anyone, so you just stay quiet. Well, it turns out that about 8 out of every 10 students is thinking exactly the same thing! No one ever asks the questions, the teacher assumes s/he is making sense, and no one in the class learns as much as they could have.
A similar feeling is that you're supposed to know the subject matter already, and you secretly suspect you don't. If you're worried that you don't know what you ought to know, or that you'll be dumber than everyone in the class, in-home/office training may be an ideal solution for you.
Another type of student who often does better in a one-to-one situation is someone who -- gasp! -- "doesn't follow directions." Guess what? People who don't follow directions are often enormously gifted and creative. They don't deliberately not follow directions; it's just that, as they start to do what they're "supposed to", they notice something else interesting, and take just a moment to see what it is. By the time they get back to the directions, the teacher is on step 5 while they're trying to remember what step 1 was. If you're one of these students, you might want to seriously consider one-to-one training, which allows a teacher to adapt to your pace and interests, instead of vice versa.
And then there's the Know-It-All -- the person who knows more than anyone else, anywhere, and don't hesitate to make sure that everyone within a 100-yard radius knows it. CompuGoddess isn't sure that these people can benefit from either classroom or one-to-one education, but she is positive that they have a major dampening effect upon an entire class.
If any of these experiences sounds familiar to you, and you're putting off learning because of them, CompuGoddess suggests you seriously consider on-site, personalized training.
