Make Your Own Web Page Using Netscape Composer 6.x

Add Graphics and Pictures to Your Web Page

Add a Horizontal Line to Your Web Page.
the icon that allows you to add a horizontal line to your web pageA horizontal line can help divide your page up into sections. Just click on the HORIZONTAL LINE icon and a line will be added to your page, separating one section from another. When you've added the line, click on it to select it. You'll know it's selected when you see a box around it.

Once the line is selected, you can go to FORMAT - HORIZONTAL LINE PROPERTIES where you can change the height of the line, or its width. You can also change its alignment in that dialog window.

This is the icon you can click on to insert an image into your pageAdd a Picture to Your Web Page.
Start by clicking the INSERT IMAGE icon.

You'll get a dialog window that looks something like the one below:

this shows you the More Properties button of the Image Properties window

Click the button above that says MORE PROPERTIES. The window will expand and look like this:

image properties (expanded)

Click the CHOOSE FILE button to navigate to the picture you want to insert.

Center the picture:
If you want to center the picture between two separate paragraphs, just click OK after navigating to the picture you want to put in. Composer will prompt you to add alternate text; at the blinking cursor, just add a little explanation of the picture (this describes the picture to blind people who use text readers, as well as to other folks who can't see pictures for various reasons). Click OK again; then click on the picture so there is a different colored frame around it and set the alignment to center (use either the alignment icon or go to FORMAT - ALIGN - CENTER).

Picture on the left side of the page:
If you want your picture to the left of the text, with the text wrapping around it, click the drop-down arrow to the right of the circled area that says AT THE BOTTOM and choose WRAP TO THE RIGHT. Click OK. Composer will now prompt you to add alternate text; at the blinking cursor, just add a little explanation of the picture (this describes the picture to blind people who use text readers, as well as to other folks who can't see pictures for various reasons). Click OK once again.

Picture on the right side of the page:
If you want your picture to the right of the text, with the text wrapping around it, click the drop-down arrow to the right of the circled area that says AT THE BOTTOM and choose WRAP TO THE LEFT. Click OK. Composer will now prompt you to add alternate text; at the blinking cursor, just add a little explanation of the picture (this describes the picture to blind people who use text readers, as well as to other folks who can't see pictures for various reasons). Click OK once again.

Extra space around the picture:
If you want extra space around the left and right of your picture, put a number in the SPACING - LEFT AND RIGHT box (usually you will use something in the range of 6-24 pixels). Click OK.

If you want extra space around the top and bottom of your picture, put a number in the SPACING - TOP AND BOTTOM box (usually you will use something in the range of 6-24 pixels). Click OK.

If you change your mind about the image options:
You can always go back to the Image Properties window by clicking on any picture. Clicking on it will put a frame around the picture; once the frame is there, you can go to FORMAT - IMAGE PROPERTIES.

NOTE: It's best to put any pictures, photos, graphics, etc., that you use in your web page in the same special folder you made for your website. (If you add your own photos to your web page, make sure that you save them in a .jpg format.)

To ensure that everyone who visits your website can see the pictures, make certain they're in either a .jpg or .gif format.
