Prepare Photos for Display on the Web

Generic Image Editing Tips

    scout, deb's cat
  1. Open a copy of your original photo.
  2. Crop the photo if necessary.
  3. Make color and contrast adjustments as necessary.
  4. Resize the photo to a size appropriate for web pages. A general rule of thumb is to make it no wider than 580 pixels and no higher than 420 pixels. If your image editing program shows you PPI (pixels-per-inch) resolution, make sure it's set to 72.
  5. Sharpen your photo (if your image editor allows you a choice between a sharpen filter/mask and an unsharpen filter/mask, choose unsharpen).
  6. Save your photo as a .jpg.
